RUGBY & RUGBY LEAGUE ACADEMY

Overview | tirohanga whanui

Founded in 1999 and based in Rotorua, the NZSA strives to develop young rugby players. This programme combines tertiary studies with an intensive rugby regime.

Directed by international coaches & trainers, it harnesses the natural talent of rugby players in a cultural environment that encourages every player to realise their potential both on and off the rugby field:

The mission of the NZSA is -To offer an internationally acclaimed Maori sports programme to the World- through using sport as the vehicle to educate.

The New Zealand Domestic Programme:

Each year the NZSA identifies and recruits around 25 young players (17-25yrs) from all over New Zealand and delivers a 38 week programme where they attend career-based courses and complete the NZSA rugby Development Programme.

Our students also play in teams in the Bay of Plenty Bay wide Rugby competition, participate in our international training camps and host, train and play with our international players throughout the year.

The International Programme:

NZSA provides professional rugby tuition for overseas players and coaches (for both individuals, coaches and teams) who participate in tailored programmes that champion the principles of success and promote the flamboyance of Maori flair, through intensive rugby regimes conducted by world class coaches & trainers.

WHERE IS THE NZSA BASED?

A small, focused team is based at the academy’s world class facility at the Rotorua International Stadium, where students in 2009 will train and play.

Heated swimming pools and indoor training facilities are available and we also make use of our beaches, lakes & forests as natural training venues
